Nathan Ambrosioni presents Les enfants vont bien, a portrait of family ties, at the Festival de Málaga
The film is included in the Mosaic: International Panorama section, coming to Spanish cinemas on June 12
French director and screenwriter Nathan Ambrosioni has presented his latest film at the Festival de Málaga, Les enfants vont bien (The kids are fine), a story about family ties, guilt and the complexity of affection. The feature film is taking part in the Mosaic: International Panorama section.
Ambrosioni tends to use family themes in his works, which, combining suspense and drama, also deal with the morality of his characters. The personal experiences of the director inspired some of the events in the film he has brought to Malaga in the 29th edition of the festival.
About this feature film, Ambrosioni confessed that he could not shoot a scene without having "seen it before" in his head. He also highlighted the work of the children throughout the film: "I love working with children," he said, although he reminded us that the "real personalities of the children are very different from those of their characters".
In the same vein of protecting actors who are minors, Ambrosioni also commented on how important it is for him "not to judge" his characters. He assures that he tries to "empathise" with them, especially in this case with the character of the mother.
The film was well received at its premiere in France, according to distributor Paco Poch, who said that he felt "supported", just as he did when he decided to take a chance on it for distribution.
One summer night, Suzanne (Juliette Armanet) and her two young children pay an unexpected visit to Suzanne's sister Jeanne (Camille Cottin). Jeanne is taken aback, as not only have they not seen each other for several months, but Suzanne seems distant, as if disconnected from herself.
When Jeanne wakes up, she is stunned to discover the note her sister has left. Shock gives way to anger when, at the police station, Jeanne realises that no search can be launched: Suzanne has decided to disappear.
Following its screening at the Festival de Málaga, Les enfants vont bien is scheduled to be released in Spanish cinemas on 12 March.
