José Mota and Jorge Sanz are starring in ‘Por tus muertos’, a feature film about friendship and opportunities
The musical comedy and debut film by Sayago Ayuso kicks off the screenings at Cine Albéniz as part of the Official Section Out of Competition.

This Saturday, the 2nd of March, the first of the proposals in the Official Section Out of Competition at the 27th Málaga Festival was presented with the film ‘Por tus muertos’, a film focused on the stories of opportunities, friendship and music. José Mota is the main character in this musical comedy inspired by a fictitious rock band (Metralla) which, after a brief success in the 80s, decides to reunite its members three decades later to give a concert.

Los Metralla was a rock band from the late 80s who was very successful with their first and only LP, titled ‘Por tus muertos’, but just before they reached glory, they broke up. Thirty years later, Miguel (José Mota), one of the band's members, still dreams of being a rock and roll star. Ordúñez, a famous rock radio broadcaster, offers him a concert at Palacio de Madrid, but on the condition that he reunites the original members of the band.

Sayago Ayuso is making his film debut with this project after an extensive career as an actor, screenwriter and television director. He also oversaw the radio programme ‘El pirata y su banda’ on Rock FM as host, along with Juan Pablo Ordúñez, El Pirata. The director, who defines himself as a rock lover, brings this musical story to the screen as a tribute to the universe of old rockers, with respect for great musicians such as Fito Paez, who inspired him to create the character played by Mota.

The cast, headed by José Mota and Jorge Sanz, is completed with Marta Belenguer and Carles Francino, who play the former members of the fictitious band.

During the discussion following the presentation of the film, the director, along with the cast, pointed out that many of the musical groups of the 80s inspired the creation of the story. Asfalto, Triana, Barón Rojo and other references of Spanish rock groups have served as sources of suggestion for this 'story of friends who believe in second chances'.
Meanwhile, the comedian and actor José Mota pointed out the good music of the 80s and recalled with nostalgia his early years in Madrid and the musical influences of his teenage years.

In a cheerful meeting with the audience and media, Jorge Sanz joked about José Mota's musical skills in the playing of his character, an old rocker who dreams of getting his band back together 18 years later. Sanz also recognised what a discovery it was for him to meet Sayago Ayuso and get to know the character of Valen, a role that captivated him from the beginning and which he is convinced 'is tailor-made for him'.

Sayago Ayuso has appreciated the work of the entire artistic team in his debut as director and has pointed out the need to have the support and friendship of Mota, beyond the interpretative line, due to the professional trajectory that has united them for years leading programmes such as ‘La noche de José Mota’, or ‘José Mota Presenta’ for RTVE.

The actress Marta Belenguer, playing the role of Janis in honour of the American singer and hippie and counterculture icon of the 60s, Janis Joplin, has confirmed what a gift this role has been for her. In this role, a woman decides to make a complete round trip, leaving behind a life that does not make her happy, to return to the past and reunite with the rest of her bandmates.

On the other hand, Carles Francino has recognised the beauty of the creation process of his character, due to the search he had to carry out in the memories of his childhood because of his character's dreamy character.

The film, produced by Súper 8, RTVE, Doc Land (Hernán Zin) and Por tus muertos A.I.E., with the participation of Prime Video and the Community of Madrid, will be released in cinemas on the 8th of March by Alfa Pictures.
