Malaga rewards the talent of the director Pilar Palomero at the 27th Malaga Festival
The filmmaker received the Malaga Talent Award, which is awarded in collaboration with the newspaper La Opinión de Málaga
The film director from Zaragoza, Pilar Palomero, received this Sunday the Malaga Talent Award at the 27th Malaga Festival, which is awarded in collaboration with La Opinión de Málaga. The award was presented tonight at Teatro Cervantes, at a gala hosted by the host, Celia Bermejo. This award recognises the vision of the author of such acclaimed films as 'Las niñas' (2020) - Biznaga de Oro Award for Best Film at the 23rd Malaga Festival - and 'La maternal' (2022).
Pilar Palomero was joined on stage at Teatro Cervantes by colleagues, professional friends and family: the actresses Natalia de Molina, Zoe Arnau, Carla Quílez and Andrea Fandos; the actor Antonio de la Torre; the producer Valérie Delpierre; and the mother and siblings of the honoured.
'With only two films you have brought us a new universe, you have given voice to issues that had been silenced. It's incredible the capacity you have to create magic in front of a camera and how we the audience are stunned by all the truths you manage to show. As a spectator, I long for you, as a colleague I celebrate you and as a woman, I admire you. Congratulations Pilar and thank you very much', declared actress Natalia de Molina in front of the audience.
After the emotional words of her colleagues, Palomero took the stage and received the Málaga Talent - La Opinión de Málaga Award from her sister. One by one, she thanked all her colleagues and friends for having been with her on this special day. She also wanted to thank the Festival and her family: 'I receive this award, above all, thinking about the films that are yet to come. I have thought a lot about them, not about themes, budgets or results, but about how I would like them to be put together, about the team I am going to surround myself with'.
But above all, she has used her voice to deliver a message of kindness: 'A shooting can be a traumatic process. This is what I thought before and, based on my own experiences, it's a truly genuine feeling. I found myself in a hostile job, with few or no women. That's why I faced my first shoot as a director with a lot of enthusiasm, but also with fear. The good thing is that I have assembled a team full of talented and, above all, kind people', said an excited Palomero.
Finally, she wanted to end with a ‘Thank You’ message to her parents and to the Festival: 'Thank you very much to the Festival, to my family, especially to my parents. I am very happy, I am going to celebrate this award and I will remember it forever'.
