The Gran Hotel Miramar hosts Festival de Málaga’s traditional Cinema Cocina gala dinner and awards ceremony in its seventh edition
The documentaries ‘Big red (‘El gran rojo’) and ‘Villa Málaga. El tiempo de un vino’ were recognised with audience awards
The gala dinner featured renowned chefs and the Regulatory Council of Denominations of Origin ‘Málaga’, ‘Sierras de Málaga’ y ‘Pasas de Málaga’, as well as Cervezas Victoria, sponsor of the section
The Gran Hotel Miramar has celebrated Festival de Málaga’s traditional Cinema Cocina gala dinner for its seventh edition, as well as the awards ceremony with the winners. The gastronomic series, which was held this year at Teatro Echegaray and was sponsored by Cervezas Victoria, has brought together a total of 17 Spanish and international documentaries – one of them being out of competition – that have competed for the awards.
The gala dinner was attended by the mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre; the Councillor for Culture and Historical Heritage, Mariana Pineda; the Minister of Andalusia’s Agriculture, Water and Rural Development, Carmen Crespo; the general director of Industries, Innovation and Agri-Food Chain of the Ministry of Agriculture, Cristina de Toro; Repsol's Sustainable Leisure Sponsorship Manager, Ana Bella García; the Secretary General of Andalusia’s Water, Ramiro Angulo; the head of Cervezas Victoria External Relations, Sergio Ragel; the president of the Regulatory Council of the Denominations of Origin Málaga, Sierras de Málaga and Pasas de Málaga, José María Losantos; the director of Lumen Proyectos Gastronomicos, Álvaro Muñoz, and the director of the Festival de Málaga, Juan Antonio Vigar.
The menu consisted of a welcome apéritif, which took place in the Victoria Room, and included a selection of acorn-fed Iberian ham (5 Jotas), sea ham (Petaca Chico), oysters (Primeria), Black River caviar and artisan cheeses from Malaga. Next, the attendees moved to the Royal Room for the gala dinner where they enjoyed the following preparations:
∙ Salted and smoked royal, herb smoothie, mangetout, borage, pickled parsnip and nasturtium, David Yárnoz (Molino de Urdániz Restaurant), participant in the documentary.
∙ Tempura shiso with bull tartar and caviar - Álvaro Arbeloa (Ta-Kumi Restaurant). ∙ Pipirrana with tomato and tuna, by Juan Carlos García (Valdelvira Restaurant).
∙ Cambados scallops, smoked meniere and Lourenzá beans by chef Lucía Freitas (Restaurante A Tafona), who has also participated in Cinema Cocina with the documentary 'Amas da terra'.
∙ Creamy pistachio, blood orange sorbet, raspberry and basil - Diego Nicas (Príncipe de Asturias Restaurant).
Likewise, the menu has included the pairing made by the Regulatory Council of 'Málaga', 'Sierras de Málaga' and 'Pasas de Málaga' from the Fabio Coullet wineries, Gross Hermanos wineries, Cayetano del Pino & Cia winery - D.O.P. "Jerez-Xérès-Sherry" and Bentomiz wineries.
CINEMA COCINA 2024 AWARD LIST
The event, which had Celia Bermejo as host, began with the presentation of the 27th Festival de Málaga Cinema Cocina awards, whose decision was issued by the jury composed of the general director of the Food Industry in the Ministry of Agriculture, José Miguel Herrero; the person in charge of Sabor a Málaga, Leonor García-Agua; the president of the Royal Academy of Gastronomy, Luis Suárez de Lezo, and the chef Sacha Hormaechea.
