Catherine Deneuve stars in 'Aquellos maravillosos días', the story of three generations of women that captivated Martin Scorsese
Andrea Riseborough and Morgan Saylor complete this family and rural drama directed by Marco La Via and Hanna Ladoul
Málaga, 9th of March.- The story of three generations of women and one last chance to reconcile was the story that captivated the famous director Martin Scorsese who made it his mission to produce the second film by Marco La Via and Hanna Ladoul, 'Aquellos maravillosos días', which was the last to be screened in the Mosaic Section: International Panorama of the 27th edition of the Festival de Málaga.
In a discussion after the screening, the directors explained that Scorsese loved the script as soon as he read it, which is why he decided to join the project. 'For us it was a gift and a surprise, because it is not the genre of films that Martin usually makes, it is not a gangster or shooting film, but a family drama with nature involved. But he told us that he was fascinated by how the mother-daughter relationship is told, in fact, he made some comments to us about the script and obviously we changed it. Martin is always right,' they said, laughing.
The film, which tells the story of three women, 'with three different ways of understanding feminism', stars Catherine Deneuve, Andrea Riseborough and Morgan Saylor, who play three generations of women from the same family.
‘Aquellos maravillosos días’ follows the story of Charlie (Saylor), who returns from boarding school to rural New Jersey to care for his divorced mother, Laura (Riseborough), who runs a small chicken farm. Her tense daily life on the farm is turned upside down when Laura's mother, Solange (Deneuve), an eccentric French feminist, shows up unannounced. When a bird flu epidemic begins to threaten the farm, they are forced to overcome the conflict and heal old wounds.
The inspiration for this film came to Hannah when, one day, while video calling with her mother, she told her that she had been diagnosed with a lump on her head, which in the end was nothing serious. However, she imagined the worst-case scenario of her having a serious health problem, what would happen and what her relationship with her daughter would be like.
Both directors also explained that it was 'a gift' for them that Catherine Deneuve accepted the role. 'We thought the role up for her, so she had to say yes to us in some way - they laughed -. So, at Cannes festival, a French director who had worked with her contacted us so that we could give her the script. The fact is that she loved it and dived into the production headfirst,' they said.
For Morgan, this film was also a 'dream come true', being able to work on a film produced by Scorsese and with Deneuve as a co-star.
The film, which will soon hit Spanish screens, will be distributed by Selecta Visión.
