'Perdiendo el juicio', comedy and drama in an unconventional law firm at the Festival de Málaga
Atresmedia and Boomerang TV present a new legal series starring Elena Rivera as a lawyer who must reinvent herself after a professional collapse
On Friday 21 March, the Festival de Málaga hosted the presentation of 'Perdiendo el juicio', a series that mixes comedy and drama to narrate the unexpected twist in the life of a successful lawyer. The series was screened this afternoon at the Albéniz cinema and forms part of the Series Out of Competition section.
Created by Susana López Rubio, Javier Holgado and Jaime Olías, and directed by Jaime Olías, Humberto Miró, María Togores and Pablo Guerrero, the series features a first-class cast and a story that combines the legal universe with emotional and personal conflicts.
Amanda Torres is a prestigious lawyer with an unblemished career until an OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) outburst during a trial leads her to become an outcast in her profession. Out of options, she is forced to accept a position in a decadent law firm, where her new colleagues are far from the elitist profile she was used to.
The screening of the first episode of the series was attended by the director of Fiction at Atresmedia TV Montse García, the director of Atresplayer Emilio Sánchez Zaballos; the screenwriter Susana López; the director of the series Pablo Guerrero; and part of the cast made up of Elena Rivera, Manu Baqueiro, Miquel Fernández, Lucía Caraballo, Daniel Ibáñez, Alfonso Lara, Carol Rovira and Dafne Fernández.
The director of Fiction at Atresmedia TV, Montse García, shared that it is "fortunate" to be able to present a series like this, which has a great cast and which aims for the viewer to enjoy week after week.
The director of Atresplayer, Emilio Sánchez Zaballos, emphasised that the channel is "committed to fiction" and the idea of consuming the chapters week by week, so that it is a moment of rest for the public in which they can enjoy "a different case".
The screenwriter Susana López commented that her idea was to create a very "human" protagonist with whom we could all empathise: "It is a story of second chances. The spectator can come in at any time and enjoy a good time."
The director of the series, Pablo Guerrero, has pointed out that it is a series with many challenges, especially in tone: "It is a series with rigour but with certain licences that are part of the convictions that the public accepts." He concluded by saying that they have sought "the genre from the truth."
The actress Elena Rivera has commented that for her the challenge is for the spectator to "empathise" and make that "journey" with her. For his part, actor Manu Baqueiro emphasised that "everyone was very comfortable" on the set and that they sought "comedy from the truth".
Actor Miquel Fernández stressed that for him the challenge is always to "tell stories" and "give truth to the characters so that they reach the audience". And the actress Lucía Caraballo mentioned that "they have enjoyed it a lot" and expressed her happiness for playing a character "so far away" from her.
The actor Daniel Ibáñez commented at the presentation at the Festival de Málaga that "a special family has been formed in this law firm far from the beautiful and so peculiar". Actor Alfonso Lara described the experience as "very special".
Actress Carol Rovira said that for her "the biggest challenge has been to build a sisterly relationship based on difference". And finally, the actress Dafne Fernández said that it is "a series that has been very much alive".
After its screening at the Festival de Málaga, 'Perdiendo el juicio' will première on Antena 3 and Atresplayer Premium on 23 March 2025.
