The recently released section of La cápsula del tiempo of this 27th Malaga Festival premiered its second session this Saturday, the 2nd of March at Teatro Echegaray, in which 'Abajo los hombres' (1934) was rescued, a feature film directed by José María Castellví and considered the first musical of Spanish film. It was intended to imitate the Hollywood atmosphere in our country and that stars the great cuplé star of the time, Carmelita Aubert.
The footage reflects the transformation of the presence of women in public spaces and is considered a symbol of freedom and feminism of the time. Likewise, as the filmmaker Luis E. Parés highlighted in the preview presentation of the screening, this musical comedy that wanted to introduce a new genre in Spain belongs to the group of films made without the fear that were established years later in the postwar era.
The figure of the actress Carmelita Aubert has been highlighted and very present in this session, since, after the screening, the performance 'Ni abajo, ni arriba' took place, in which the Malaga actress Laura Ortiz, accompanied on the piano by Carmelita Vidal performed various songs that the famous artist stars in the film.
With the aim of rescuing and reclaiming important historical footages from Spanish cinematography, ‘La cápsula del tiempo’, under the motto ‘Cuplé y revolución’, will end this Sunday, the 3rd of March, presenting 'Nuestro culpable' (1938), by Fernando Mignoni, a screening followed by a musical performance performed by José Carra.
