The Festival de Málaga has presented a new session of the 5 minutos de cine section, a space dedicated to audiovisual projects in the post-production stage, which will be presented in the coming months. Malaga University's Rectorate hosted the presentation of ‘Velintonia 3’, a title scheduled to be presented next autumn and premiered at the end of this year 2024, as a tribute to the 40th anniversary of the death of the Sevillian poet Vicente Aleixandre.
The name of the feature film is linked closely to a plot whose aim is to rescue a slightly lost and, at the same time, very significant figure, that of the poet, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1977. Velintonia is the street in Madrid where his house was and still is, and 3 is the number that used to be his home, although, over time, Velintonia 3 is what this house has become commonly known as.
In this 5-minute screening, a small teaser of the film was screened, with images showing recordings and interviews that were made in the writer's home during his life, part of this unpublished work. ‘It is about recovering the memory of one of the most forgotten poets’, declared the director of the project, Javier Vila, who was joined by the producers Virginia Moriche and José Antonio Hergueta, in a discussion moderated by Luis Alegre.
‘Besides being a portrait of Vicente, it is a claim for the abandonment of the cultural heritage’, continued the director, in relation to the state of the house, which is currently being struggled to be transformed into a nucleus that worships both its previous owner and the letters.
Virginia Moriche, on the other hand, stressed that this feature film offers ‘an unknown aspect of the writer who was a link between four generations of different poets’. 'He not only lived a life, but of all those around him', said the producer in relation to the hospitality of Vicente Aleixandre, who used his house as a meeting point for writers of his time.
Likewise, José Antonio Hergueta expressed his dissatisfaction at the fact that the figure of the Nobel Prize winner for Literature has been somewhat forgotten and that his home is deteriorating, especially considering the importance of the author for ‘his generosity in giving so much of himself and to so many, which means that his importance is diminished and what Vicente was is somewhat lost’. He also wanted to emphasise that this project has the support of Canal Sur, as well as the ICAA, TVE and Diputación de Málaga.
