The documentary 'Mis ganas ganan. La historia de Elena Huelva' touches the Málaga public with its presentation at the Festival
The film, in the out of competition section, premiered this Sunday in the attendance of the parents and sister of the young Sevillian influencer who died in 2023
In a very crowded session, the heroic struggle of the young Andalusian Elena Huelva this Sunday opened the third day of the official Out of Competition Documentary section of the 27th Festival de Málaga. Screened in the Tourism and Sports Hall, 'Mis ganas ganan, la historia de Elena Huelva', directed by José Luis Hernández Arango, collects the testimonies of personalities from the music and media world, such as Aitana and Manuel Carrasco, who supported the influencer during her battle against cancer.
In Malaga, in addition to the presence of its director, the screening of the film was attended by the parents, Emi Palomo and Manuel Huelva, and Elena's sister, Emi Huelva, who were visibly moved.
'It was very hard for me to look back at Elena's videos, to remember everything, but it was necessary because she taught us to live in the present and love life,' said her sister Emi Huelva in the discussion after the screening of the documentary, made with charitable purposes. The director, for his part, wanted to make one thing clear: 'I thought that this story should be told and not forgotten. So I thank the Festival for this opportunity and I ask you all that when you leave here, talk to your friends, families and that you all go to the cinema. We need to raise funds for research.
Touching Testimonies
'Elena was a story of overcoming, of a battle fought with all her strength, giving us all an incredible lesson, and of all of us wanting to join in helping her,' Manuel Carrasco was sincere in the documentary. The singer, who was very close to the young woman, dedicated the song 'Si tú supieras’ knew' to her.
Elena Huelva was 16 years old when she was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma in the pelvis with metastasis to the lungs. The young woman managed to overcome the disease, but a relapse in 2020 kept her in and out of the hospital until her death at 20 years of age. 'I want you to always remember the phrase 'las ganas ganan (will wins) for everything, that it is not necessary to win to know that we have already won. In the end, life is about living and taking with you the memories you have with people, and I take with me many good memories with wonderful people and many more things,' he said in one of his last messages on his social networks.
Elena was a born communicator because she was capable of lighting up people’s days with a gesture, with a smile, with her words, with her sweetness, messages that are truly her legacy,' in the words of presenter Toñi Moreno in the documentary, which features the participation from Canal Sur and RTVE.
With her joy and her motto ‘Mis ganas ganan (My will wins)’, Elena made all of Spain fall in love with her. Aware of her popularity, she embarked on a mission with a very clear objective: to raise awareness in society about the importance of research in the fight against cancer. So much so that she achieved an important collaboration with the Juegaterapia Foundation that helps sick children through play: he designed the well-known Baby Pelón and managed to raise 87,000 euros for the GEIS group (Sarcoma Research Group) for research into Ewing's Sarcoma, a disease from which the young woman from Seville suffered.
