Tras el verano brings blended families into the limelight in the ‘5 Minutes of Cinema’ section
In her first feature film, Yolanda Centeno aims to normalise a previously shunned subject, with a cast including Alexandra Jiménez, Juan Diego Botto and Ruth Gabriel
This Thursday, the ‘5 Minutes of Cinema’ section hosted the screening of Tras el verano, a project directed by Yolanda Centeno, a preview of which was shown at the University of Malaga Rectorate at the Malaga Festival, which aims to showcase projects at different stages of production and which will see their release in the coming months.
In the case of Tras el verano, the plot reflects the different problems that blended families can face, as well as normalising and making visible a subject and situation that until now has eluded attention as a main theme on the big screen. 'With this story, I try to reclaim a legal vacuum and a social resistance with a light at the end of the tunnel', said the director, who confessed that she was inspired by her own personal situation to create the story.
Alexandra Jiménez, Juan Diego Botto and Ruth Gabriel are the well-known faces that make up a cast that’s completed by Alejandro López, a 6-year-old boy who plays a key role in the development of the story. 'It’s been a wonderful thing to work with him. We’ve been able to bring out his genuineness by not working to a literal script', said Centeno about the little artist’s performance.
'I’m lucky and happy to have been part of this film from the beginning', said Ruth Gabriel, who accompanied Yolanda Centeno in the discussion and noted how she felt an 'immediate connection from the start', because she is also part of a blended family. The actress acknowledged that the story revolves around a 'subject that grabbed her' and that it’s about 'a difficult but exciting journey'.
